EPT Cyprus

Mikalai Vaskaboinikau, the 2019 Triton Poker Main Event champion in Montenegro, has added another prestigious title to his resume. The Belarusian poker pro conquered the $50,000 EPT Super High Roller at the ongoing EPT Cyprus, defeating a stacked field and taking home $601,397.

Overview of the $50K Super High Roller

The event attracted 36 participants and 11 re-entries, totaling 47 entries and generating a prize pool of $2,279,970. The bubble burst at the end of Day 2, with Thomas Eychenne narrowly missing the money after losing a crucial flip to Artur Martirosian. Eychenne’s pocket queens were cracked by Martirosian’s AK, courtesy of a king on the river.

Day 3: Key Hands and Final Table Action

With six players remaining, Jamil Wakil was the first to exit. Reduced to just 20,000 chips, Wakil’s all-in from the small blind couldn’t hold up against Alexander Zubov’s flush. Zubov’s elimination in 5th place followed shortly after, losing his stack to Adrián Mateos.

Roman Hrabec finished 4th, eliminated by Vaskaboinikau after his A10 failed to improve against Vaskaboinikau’s 88. This left three players vying for the title—Mateos, Martirosian, and Vaskaboinikau—who briefly paused play to negotiate a deal.

Deal Details

  • Adrián Mateos: $555,758
  • Artur Martirosian: $495,815
  • Mikalai Vaskaboinikau: $542,120
  • Left for the Champion: $59,277

The trio resumed play with the remaining $59,277 reserved for the winner. After nearly an hour of intense poker, Mateos was eliminated in 3rd place, setting up the final heads-up showdown between Martirosian and Vaskaboinikau.

Heads-Up Battle

Vaskaboinikau initially gained the lead, but Martirosian doubled up, momentarily shifting the momentum. However, Vaskaboinikau regained control, eventually leaving Martirosian with less than 2 million chips. The decisive hand came when Vaskaboinikau called Martirosian’s all-in:

  • Martirosian: A♠2♦
  • Vaskaboinikau: 4♣4♦

Board: J♥ 3♠ 2♣ 6♣ 9♦

Vaskaboinikau’s pocket fours held, securing his victory and the $601,397 first-place prize.
